House Update

So an update on the house...

I did not stay at my place last week with all of the fans going. It was really loud and just depressing seeing everything. I came back to the house Thursday afternoon to meet the guys from Service Master. They were coming to check everything and hopefully remove all of the fans.

Well right when they got in and looked at the one trouble spot I had, one of the guys said, "Uh Rob we have something leaking." First thing in my mind was crap another pipe busted while I was gone. They told me to check the bathrooms. I ran upstairs to the bathroom to find water on the floor. The tank to the toilet was still running. The fill valve never shut it off; you know the little thing that floats up to the top and turns it off. This had nothing to do with the cold or anything; just coincidence that it happened right after the pipe busted.

So they checked things out and yep more water damage. There is an 8 in x 8 in square and a 3 in x 8 in rectangle on the wall going down the stairs that are wet. Then my pantry ceiling is soaked and the corner of the pantry. I called the insurance and I would have to file a 2nd claim and pay another $1000 deductible for them to cover it. I don't think this damage is $1000.

I talked to the guys at service master that were here and they said if they tried to dry it out like they did for the busted pipe that would cost over $1000. They recommended cutting out those 2 squares of wet sheetrock and patching them. Then to cut down the ceiling to the pantry and remove the pantry walls. They said that would be the cheapest on the pocket book. My ceiling in the pantry already needs to be replaced bc there was water damage up there back in July 2008 when my toiled seal was broken. (the home warranty fixed the toilet but wouldn't fix the secondary damage due to the water)

I am now back in my house thank goodness. It is still a mess from everything but atleast I am back home. 2010 has not started out as a great year :(

Happy New Year to Me

So I drove back to Kansas City Sunday evening and did not have a happy welcome home. Two hours after I got home a pipe under my kitchen sink busted. The water was coming out high power and just rushing across the kitchen floor. Then in the laundry room which is beneath the kitchen there was water rushing down the wall. The floor downstairs was covered with water as well. Here is a picture of the busted shut off valve :(

I went to my neighbor's house and he helped me turn off the main water line. Turns out his uncle is a plumber, so he came out Monday morning and fixed the busted shut off valve. He turned the water back on and there was still water leaking. After further investigation, turned out I had a frozen pipe that busted as well.

The water was coming through in the ceiling in the entry way right beneath the kitchen. So he recommended calling the insurance company because there was no telling how much water damage I had.

So an hour after the plumber left, the water restoration company got out there to get things drying out. Well after evaluating the damage they decided to rip out the ceiling shown above and the cabinet beneath my kitchen sink. They put in about 10 fans and 2 de-humidifiers with plastic hanging up every where.

The insurance adjuster came Tuesday to look at everything. Thank goodness we have insurance on the place. They have taken out 4 of the fans so far, but it is still drying. Things are drying well, but there is one spot that isn't drying out very well.

Luckily I have some great friends that are letting me crash in their guest room. I'm just ready to be back in my own house. I haven't slept in my own bed in almost an entire month.

It's Official!

The invitations went out in the mail Monday morning and some people already got them yesterday! That means it's official. People know what time the wedding is and where it's at; I guess we can't run off to the JP anymore. haha

I don't recommend making your own invitations EVER! Eric is a graphic designer so we thought ok he can design them. Well I liked the pocket folder enclosures, so each invitation had 5 cards.
  • Invitation
  • RSVP card
  • Hotel card
  • Map card
  • A monogram
For whatever reason when we printed them on the laser jet printer, they didn't all line up the same on the paper. So that meant cutting each card by hand using a scrapbook cutter. Um with 123 invitations each with 5 cards that's over 600 cards to cut out. It took all last week, and I wasn't even working or studying. That's all I did last week.

So the invitation was mounted in the center and then the 3 cards were placed inside the pocket. Then I wrapped a ribbon around the outside and stuck the monogram on the ribbon. Very labor intensive, but I'm so pleased with how they turned out :)

Bridal Shower

My bridesmaids threw a bridal shower on Sunday for me. It was so much fun and such a wonderful day. Thank you so much to all of the friends and family that came to help celebrate our upcoming marriage. Here are a few pictures from the day. (Eric's mom took tons of pictures but I'm only putting up a few pics.) I didn't get any pictures with my two Moms :(

Wedding Update

I can't believe I've already been back in Texas for a full week! While I'm home, I've been getting a lot of wedding stuff done.

Last Wednesday my mom and I met with the DOC at the hotel where the reception will take place. We finalized all of the little details. YAY!!!

Then on Friday I had my bridal portraits taken. I can't wait to see the fabulous pictures that Jessica was able to get. I really do have an awesome photographer! I just love her style. Lets just say yellow field, dead grass, and run down ballpark with a bride in white! :)

This is after hair and make up by the fabulous Tiffany from Smokin Hot Make Up. Sorry about the quality it's from my phone haha.

I've also printed all of our wedding invitations. Eric designed the invitations for us, and I printed them out on a new laserjet printer that my Dad purchased just for this special project. Thanks Dad!!!!

Now I just have to cut them out including all of the little inserts, RSVP, Map, and Hotel cards. We have 130 invitations, but I'm hoping to get them all sent out this week. I'll post a picture once I get the invitation all put together.

Christmas Break!

Ok so this post is somewhat random but enjoy!

I am officially on Christmas break. WOOHOO!!!! I had my last final yesterday. I only have one more semester of sitting in a classroom listening to lectures for my life as a med student. I will start seeing patients in August. YAY!!!

On an exciting note. Eric flies in TONIGHT!!! I get to spend 23 days with him, and I'm so excited :) He has a JOB INTERVIEW on Monday that is looking really promising. It's not his ultimate job, but you know it's a job making money in Kansas City :) I will keep you posted on how it goes.

I get my wedding gown on Sunday! I took it in for alterations, and I'm so excited to see it all finished and the perfect size for me :)

We will be driving back to Dallas on Tuesday. YAY for an 8 hour drive :(

I hope all you blog readers enjoy your weekend. :)

I love my dress!!!

I picked up my dress today. I LOVE IT!!! OMG I can't believe I have my wedding dress :) It has to get altered some. It's too long and then it's a little big in the chest and the hips/butt but it fits a lot better than I thought it would. I'm taking it in Saturday for alterations. YAY!!!! I so wish I could post a picture, but I guess you'll just have to wait and see pictures from the wedding.

Only 79 days to go.
